Development of a Surface Magneto-Optic Kerr Effect Magnetometer
This thesis presents the development and optimization of a surface magneto-optic Kerr effect (SMOKE) magnetometer. Our magnetometer is explained in terms of its three major parts: mechanical setup, electrical connections, and LabVIEW programming. An upgrade of the electrical system is shown to double the available applied field. Studies of the deviation angle and incident polarization direction...
متن کاملMAGNETO-OPTIC KERR EFFECT AND ELECTRONIC STRUCTURE OF Fe1/3TaS2
Fel13TaS2 is a ferromagnetic intercalation compound. Band structure calculations show various deviations from the rigid band model. We suggest that the measured Kerr spectrum is due to four transitions with paramagnetic line shape from states situated near the Fermi level to higher lying Ta-states.
متن کاملSingle-qubit Quantum Gates using Magneto-optic Kerr Effect
We propose the use of magneto-optic Kerr effect (MOKE) to realize single-qubit quantum gates. We consider longitudinal and polar MOKE in reflection geometry in which the magnetic field is parallel to both the plane of incidence and surface of the film. MOKE couples incident TE and TM polarized photons and the Hamiltonian that represents this interaction is isomorphic to that of a canonical two-...
متن کاملHigh resolution in situ magneto-optic Kerr effect and scanning tunneling microscopy setup with all optical components in UHV.
A surface magneto-optic Kerr effect (MOKE) setup fully integrated in an ultrahigh vacuum chamber is presented. The system has been designed to combine in situ MOKE and scanning tunneling microscopy. Magnetic fields up to 0.3 T can be applied at any angle in the transverse plane allowing the study of in-plane and out-of-plane magnetization. The setup performance is demonstrated for a continuous ...
متن کاملA mirror based polar magneto-optical Kerr effect spectroscopy arrangement.
An arrangement is described for performing magneto-optical Kerr effect (MOKE) spectroscopy in polar geometry with a conventional C-frame or H-frame type electromagnet. It uses an additional mirror which eliminates the need for an electromagnet pole piece with an axial hole and allows for easy switching between polar MOKE geometry and longitudinal or transverse MOKE geometries. A theoretical ana...
